MSM Scores Big With Atlanta Hawks
ATLANTA – March 2, 2015 – Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) scored big with the Atlanta Hawks as part of a special MSM 40th Anniversary event. Nearly 400 MSM faculty, staff, students, family and friends came out to Philips Arena on Friday, February 27, 2015, to show support for MSM Night with the Hawks. Each person who purchased a ticket to the game through MSM received a free t-shirt.
The night began with a pre-game reception, at the Arena, that included music, food and fun. During the game, MSM President and Dean Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice was acknowledged for contributing to black history. She is the first African-American female to lead a free-standing medical school. At halftime, Dr. Montgomery Rice and MSM second-year M.D. student Jessica Livsey were invited to come out onto the floor. Livsey even had the opportunity to attempt to shoot the ball from center court.
The eventful day was also deemed “MSM Spirit Day” by MSM leadership. So, on Friday faculty, staff and students were encouraged to wear MSM paraphernalia.
